Things to do in Oslo this summer

Summer is here and in the area there is a lot to do for both adults and children. Take a bath at the end of Sørenga, visit the galleries, eat a homemade Italian gelato or enjoy the sun on one of the many outdoor restautants.

Take a bath in the Oslo Fjord

In the area there are many places to take a bath on a lovely sunny day and it is not far between the various bathing spots. At the far end of Sørenga you will find the popular sea bath and the harbor promenade along Sørenga and Sørengstranden is also nice for you who want to enjoy the sun and swimming. Last summer, the Opera Beach, which is located quite nicely, opened between the Opera and MUNCH. The pier in Bispevika is also popular for sunbathing and swimming. Here you will find the quay front where you can jump into the sea from the pier or sunbathe with a view of MUNCH and Sørenga.

Italian gelato

An ice cream is good on hot summer days and at Paradis Gelateria you get homemade Italian gelato. You will find two ice cream bars in the area, one in the bay and one out on Sørenga. Here the gelato is made fresh every day with natural and fresh ingredients. There is a large selection of flavors ranging from fresh sorbets, to classics, and exciting combinations.

Culture street

Take a trip to the cultural street and visit the galleries. Here you will find Kösk which shows exhibitions with some of the best in Norwegian contemporary art. QSPA Gallery which is the foundation H.M Dronning Sonja's artist scholarship and aims to create interest in, and stimulate the development of graphic art. At QSPA, there are fantastic art prints by artists from around the world, as well as some of H.M. Queen Sonja's own artwork. VI, VII which is a gallery specializing in international contemporary art. Outside the cultural street, but not far away (Rostockgata 2-4) you will find Kunsthall Oslo which is a non-commercial gallery for art. Norwegian and international contemporary art are shown here, with the main emphasis on new productions.

Architectural walk

The area has become popular with those interested in architecture. Visit famous buildings such as the Opera, MUNCH and Deichmann. Also get the impressive view of Barcode, the water art in Bispevika and take the trip over to Sørenga for a great view of both MUNCH and the quay front in Bispevika.

In the middle of the bay you will find the station common playground. This is a modern playground where children can climb and slide. In the square around there are in the summer cooling fountains for everyone.

Explore the area along the water

Do you want to explore the area along the water? At Sørenga is Friluftshuset where you can sign up for a kayak course and join a guided kayak trip. They also have SUP boards and kayaks that you can rent. To rent a kayak and paddle on your own, you must have an NPF wet card. You can find them at Sørengkaia 124.

Shopping in Operagata

In the shopping street Operagata you will find many gorgeous shops and not least Norwegian designers. Here you will find Norwegian design at Envelope 1976, Holzweiler and Norwegian Rain & T-Michael. There are also several multi-brand stores such as Oxholm, Aspeli, Dapper, and gorgeous underwear and swimwear from various brands at Bjørvika Undertøy. At the end of Operagata is Bjørvika Blomster with the season's finest flowers and other beautiful interior pieces. At the other end of the shopping street is Thune. There is a large selection of good restaurants in the area and many nice outdoor restaurants both along the pier in Bispevika, on Munch pier and out on Sørenga.
