Moomin family day in Oslobukta

September 6
Join the Moomin family and their friends on an adventure for the magical Moomin family day on Saturday, September 6th.

Join the Moomin family and their friends on an adventure into the magical Moomin universe at the Moomin Family Day in Oslobukta, Saturday, September 6, from 11:00 and onwards!

Did you know that the story of the Moomins has its origins in literature? The Moomintroll and the other characters in the Moomin universe were created by the Finnish-Swedish author Tove Jansson through nine novels and four picture books from 1945 to 1970.

The tales are loved by both children and adults all over the world, and are known for their warm philosophy of life and values such as love, equality, respect, courage, and friendship.

In 2025, it is 80 years since Tove Jansson published the very first Moomin story, The Moomins and the Great Flood. She wrote the book in the middle of World War II, as a fairytale to comfort herself during dark times.

The story of Moominmamma and Moomintroll searching for a new home mirrors the reality of millions of people fleeing, and ends in what would become known as Moominvalley.

The Moominhouse – a tall, blue house where everyone is welcome, no matter who they are or when they arrive – symbolizes safety, belonging, and hope. Its door is always open.

This year, we celebrate the timeless message and universe of the Moomins – as relevant today as it was 80 years ago.

Meet Moomintroll and Little My – there will be fun activities and an exciting bingo for both children and adults!
