Cheese day with Annis

The last Friday in October is cheese day. On this occasion, we have had a chat with Annis where they share some tips from their wonderful selection of cheeses.

Are you going to treat yourself to some good cheeses on Friday 25 October? It is cheese day and at Annis in Barcode you will find a large selection of good cheeses.

Annis focuses on all the good Norwegian cheese that is produced in Norway. This is reflected in the selection you will find in the store. Every week they have a new "cheese of the week" that they have on offer, and taste tests throughout the week. This varies between Norwegian, French and Italian cheeses.

They recommend Munkeby, which is a red whale cheese produced by the monks in Mariaklsoteret in Levanger. This is a very soft and balanced cheese, if, like most cheeses, becomes more intense during maturation.

Another cheese that is really in season in autumn is Mont d'Or. A French/Swiss cheese that is only available from September to around May. Something that makes this a cheese that many people look forward to. It is made from raw milk and is best when heated. Who doesn't like melted cheese? It is also lovely with truffle. Right now you can find autumn truffles at Annis, which are great to tear over Mont d'Or. Otherwise, Annis advises to use garlic cloves to put in the cheese, have some good cured food on the side, cornichons or some sweet marmalade to balance the flavors.

In the blue mold category, Annis has two cheeses on the counter that have been named the world's best cheese, both Norwegian! We are going to Tingvoll ysteri with Kraftkar, which won back in 2016, and Gangstad gårdsysteri with Nidelven blå, which is the most recent winner who won now in 2023. Incredibly good cheeses in their own way. Annis recommends fig marmalade from Gangstad gårdsysteri, which is perfect for blue cheeses. It is sweet and balances the power of the blue cheese.

Among hard red cheeses, they have a lovely Fjelleronning from Avdem Gårdsysteri, which is also from Gudbrandsdalen. This is also where Annis has his main base. This is a relatively hard cheese that has many uses, great for bread, snacks or sandwhich.

Head to Annis for more tips and to see the entire selection. You will find them at Dronning Eufemias gate 37.
